Rebranding after 15 years of Music Creation... The Journey

Dear Fans,

Every artist has their own story on how they discovered their stage or artist name. This is mine story. I think more people can be learned from a story, instead of a formula on how to create their own name and branding.

On the surface, DRGN might seem like just a unique grouping of letters. To me, however, it is the name under which I write, record, and release my music. This name represents the final iteration of over 15 years of music creation.

When I first started making music, I took on the persona of my favorite TV series character, “Prynce Fresh.” Initially, the songs I created using this persona were shared around my school, and none of it was serious. After a short period, I retired this name because I knew from an early stage that I couldn’t adopt another person’s persona and make it mine.

Inspired by my birth name, Dominique, I went through a few iterations, including “King Dom,” “Unique,” and “Mr. U.” Eventually, I decided to get some help from my friends in a music group called December City Music Group. After some discussion, a new persona was born thanks to my friend REZCOAST GRIZZ: “Niq’O Domier.” I cherished the uniqueness of this name, but I didn’t foresee the challenges in promotion and searchability.

Eight years later, I realized I needed something more searchable but didn’t want to discard everything I had built. Around that time, I had just written a song about my struggle between my mental side (Knight: trying to do the right thing) and my emotional side (Dragon: ready to act out of passion). This was the spark for introducing the dragon into my name, which I found memorable. “Domier The Dragon” was born, blending my previous name with this new concept.

Under this name, my fan base experienced its largest growth. However, I still desired something shorter, more mature, and easier to search for. “Domier The Dragon” felt a bit immature and didn’t quite connect with the mature music I create. For the last six months, I’ve been testing a few names in my continued search for the perfect one, including “Sincerely, Dominique” (which felt too long), “Domier” (too unique), and “Dragon” (not unique enough).

Finally, I settled on a name that is unique, strong, memorable, simple, and to the point: DRGN (shortened from Dragon). The transition is just starting, but I already know this name is exactly what I want—strong yet intriguing, mature yet not too serious.

If, while reading this, you decide to dive deep into all my previous stage names and come across some old song gems, feel free to share them with me by emailing Artist.DRGN@gmail.com I would love to hear them.

Love you all, DRGN
